How to Shoot Yourself in the Foot

Boing Boing is reporting that

India’s Department of Telecommunications (DoT) passed an order to ISPs Friday to block several websites. The list is confidential. Indian ISPs have been slowly coming into compliance. SpectraNet, MTNL, Reliance, and as of Monday afternoon, Airtel. State-backed BSNL and VSNL have not started yet but likely will soon. The known list of blocked domains is *.blogspot.com, *.typepad.com and geocities.com/*.

All of the blogosphere is abuzzed by this news. People are taling about it here, here and here.

Well this is plain simple stupid and is called “How to Shoot Yourself in the Foot” . You dont aleinate a growing economy and high tech market from the blogosphere.

Well on one side they (India and it’s govt) are getting praises for these kind of things, but it is not the first time something aweful has been done.

I am pretty sure it is some Babu that cameup with this wisecrack idea while sipping on his free cup of chai , that instead of blocking up blogs for inappropriate material, why not fucking block the whole domains.
